Need to deal with such problems quickly: PM
'I HOPE we can continue to maintain our racial and religious harmony. This is a very sensitive and important matter. I've said a lot about this in my National Day Rally speech last year. When you look at our region, the race and religion situation in Malaysia is of stark contrast to ours.
Of course Singapore is not without its problems, occasionally some unhappy things or things that should not have happened, happen.
But when things happen, we must deal with them quickly, decisively and resolutely. We must let everyone know what is right, what is wrong, which road we should take, so that we can all live harmoniously together.
We are a multiracial and multi-religious society, living peacefully in a very small island. We have done quite well so far, so we should continue it.'
Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, on his wish for racial and religious harmony, responding on Sunday to reporters who had asked about the episode involving Pastor Rony Tan's insensitive comments about Buddhism and Taoism.
