Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong last night joined in the River Hongbao 2010 carnival held at the Marina Bay floating platform.
He was accompanied by his wife Ho Ching and several MPs, including Dr Amy Khor (left), Mr Liang Eng Hwa (fourth from right) and Mr Seng Han Thong (right). Other MPs present were Mr Sam Tan, Mr Seah Kian Peng, Dr Lam Pin Min, and Mr Teo Ser Luck.
A jovial-looking Mr Lee spent 1-1/2 hours at the event where he viewed lantern displays, watched performances and enjoyed Chengdu delicacies.
At a wishing well, he threw a coin that hit a small bell symbolising a wish for good health.
More than 640,000 people have visited the River Hongbao since it opened last Friday.
The numbers surpassed the target of 300,000 visitors set by the organisers: Singapore Press Holdings, Singapore Federation of Chinese Clan Associations, the People's Association, Singapore Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and the Singapore Tourism Board.
The nine-day Chinese New Year carnival closes this Saturday.
