Mr NG Chee Meng
Ng Chee Meng was elected Member of Parliament for Pasir Ris-Punggol GRC in September 2015, and appointed to the Cabinet of Singapore as the Acting Minister for Education (Schools) on 1 October 2015. He is also Second Minister for Transport.
Prior to his Cabinet appointment, he served as Singapore's Chief of Defence Force (CDF). During his tenure as CDF from March 2013, he ensured that the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) maintained its high level of operational effectiveness in safeguarding the nation’s security. Under his leadership, he also charted out the SAF’s restructuring plans.
Mr Ng joined the SAF in December 1986 and held various key command and staff appointments during his 29 years of service. These included Commanding Officer, 144 Squadron; Head Air Plans Department; Commander, Changi Air Base, Director, Joint Operations and Chief of Air Force.
He also held several directorship appointments in public and private organisations, including the Boards of Singapore Technologies Engineering, Defence Science and Technology Agency, and Jurong Town Corporation.
Mr Ng graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering in 1991. In 2003, he obtained a Master of Arts (International Relations) from the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy at Tufts University, USA.
He is married to Michelle and has two teenage children.
