Visit by DPM Tharman Shanmugaratnam to Kenya and Rwanda, 12-14 June 2018

DPM Tharman Shanmugaratnam will visit Kenya and Rwanda from 12-14 June 2018

 

Deputy Prime Minister and Coordinating Minister for Economic and Social Policies Tharman Shanmugaratnam will visit Kenya and Rwanda as part of Singapore’s increased engagement with countries in Sub-Saharan Africa. DPM Tharman will be accompanied by Senior Minister of State, Ministry of Trade and Industry, Dr Koh Poh Koon. A business delegation co-led by Enterprise Singapore and the Singapore Business Federation will also visit Kenya and Rwanda in conjunction with DPM Tharman’s visit.
 
From 12 to 13 June, DPM Tharman will visit Nairobi, Kenya, where he will call on President Uhuru Kenyatta, and open the Enterprise Singapore Nairobi Overseas Centre which will help Singapore companies venture into Kenya and East Africa. DPM Tharman will also have meetings with government leaders from Kenya’s economic ministries and central bank, and business leaders. 
 
This will be Enterprise Singapore’s third Overseas Centre to be established in Sub-Saharan Africa after Johannesburg, South Africa and Accra, Ghana. DPM Tharman will also witness the signing of the Bilateral Investment Treaty and the Agreement for the Avoidance of Double Taxation and the Prevention of Fiscal Evasion with respect to Taxes on Income. 
 
On 13-14 June, DPM Tharman will visit Kigali, Rwanda, where he will call on President Paul Kagame and Prime Minister Dr Edouard Ngirente, and have meetings with other Government leaders from Rwanda’s economic ministries and central bank. DPM Tharman will also witness the signing of the Bilateral Investment Treaty and the Bilateral Air Services Agreement. 
 
Besides SMS Koh Poh Koon, DPM Tharman will be accompanied by officials from the Ministry of Trade and Industry, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Enterprise Singapore.
