DPM Lawrence Wong to visit the People’s Republic of China (5 to 8 Dec 2023)

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance Lawrence Wong will make a working visit to the People’s Republic of China, from 5 to 8 December 2023.

 

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance Lawrence Wong will make an Official Visit to China (Beijing and Tianjin) from 5 to 8 December 2023 at the invitation of Vice Premier of the State Council of the People’s Republic of China Ding Xuexiang.

Deputy Prime Minister Wong and Vice Premier Ding will co-chair the 19th Joint Council for Bilateral Cooperation (JCBC) in Tianjin on 7 December. The JCBC is the institutionalised annual apex-level platform that reviews the substantive collaboration between Singapore and China and charts the direction for cooperation between the two countries. Deputy Prime Minister Wong and Vice Premier Ding will also co-chair the 24th China-Singapore Suzhou Industrial Park Joint Steering Council (JSC), the 15th Sino-Singapore Tianjin Eco-City JSC, and the 7th China-Singapore (Chongqing) Demonstration Initiative on Strategic Connectivity JSC. The JSCs review the progress of and discuss further cooperation on the three flagship Government-to-Government projects. In addition, Deputy Prime Minister Wong will have a bilateral meeting with Vice Premier Ding.

This year also marks the 15th anniversary of the Tianjin Eco-City. While in Tianjin, Deputy Prime Minister Wong and Vice Premier Ding will participate in activities to commemorate this anniversary. Deputy Prime Minister Wong will also meet Secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Tianjin Municipal Committee Chen Min’er.

In Beijing, Deputy Prime Minister Wong will call on Premier of the State Council Li Qiang. Deputy Prime Minister Wong will also have separate meetings with Vice Premier of the State Council He Lifeng and Minister of Finance Lan Fo’an. Deputy Prime Minister Wong will also meet Singaporeans in Beijing.

Deputy Prime Minister Wong will be accompanied by Minister for Trade and Industry Gan Kim Yong, Minister for Education Chan Chun Sing, Minister for Health Ong Ye Kung, Minister for Communications and Information and Second Minister for Home Affairs Josephine Teo, Minister for National Development Desmond Lee, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Office, Second Minister for Education and Second Minister for Foreign Affairs Dr Mohamad Maliki Osman, Acting Minister for Transport and Senior Minister of State (Finance) Chee Hong Tat, Senior Minister of State (Sustainability and the Environment)(Transport) Dr Amy Khor, Senior Minister of State (Foreign Affairs)(National Development) Sim Ann, Minister of State (Culture, Community and Youth)(Trade and Industry) Low Yen Ling, and Senior Parliamentary Secretary (Law)(Health) Rahayu Mahzam, as well as senior officials from the various Ministries and agencies.
