PM Lee Hsien Loong to visit South Africa and Kenya (May 2023)

Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong will make Official Visits to Cape Town, South Africa from 14 to 16 May 2023 and Nairobi, Kenya from 17 to 19 May 2023.

 

Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong will make Official Visits to Cape Town, South Africa from 14 to 16 May 2023 and Nairobi, Kenya from 17 to 19 May 2023. These are Prime Minister Lee’s first Official Visits to South Africa and Kenya.

In Cape Town, Prime Minister Lee will meet South African President Cyril Ramaphosa, who will host him to an official lunch. The two leaders will participate in a business roundtable with business delegations from both sides. Prime Minister Lee will also be hosted to dinner by Deputy President Paul Mashatile and attend a reception with overseas Singaporeans. In Nairobi, Prime Minister Lee will meet Kenyan President William Samoei Ruto, who will also host him to an official lunch.

Prime Minister Lee will be accompanied by Minister for Foreign Affairs Dr Vivian Balakrishnan; Senior Minister of State, Ministry of Communications and Information and Ministry of Health, Dr Janil Puthucheary; Minister of State, Ministry of Trade and Industry and Ministry of Culture, Community, and Youth, Alvin Tan; Members of Parliament Mr Vikram Nair and Ms Mariam Jaafar; and officials from the Prime Minister’s Office, Ministry of Communications and Information, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Trade and Industry, and Enterprise Singapore. There will also be a business mission to South Africa and Kenya led by the Singapore Business Federation.

During Prime Minister Lee’s absence, Senior Minister and Coordinating Minister for National Security Teo Chee Hean will be the Acting Prime Minister from 14 to 17 May 2023, and Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance Lawrence Wong will be the Acting Prime Minister from 18 to 19 May 2023.
