Good morning!

I am very happy to launch The Boys’ Brigade Share-a-Gift project 2021 today.

For 34 years now, the Boys’ Brigade has been an indelible part of our Singapore Christmas landscape.  When you think of Christmas, you think not only of the trees in lights or Santa Claus in red; you think of the Boys’ Brigade boys in blue, fanning out across Singapore to collect and deliver kindness and goodwill.

It is an honour to be a part of this lasting tradition of giving, serving the community without pause since 1988.

COVID-19 continues to weigh on us, upending the way we live, work and play. Among our friends and neighbours, there are those who need support.  When the community steps forward to help with their needs, this can mean a lot.

The Boys’ Brigade tell me that, this year, the Boys’ Brigade Share-a-Gift project aims to bring this meaningful act to over 44,000 beneficiaries.

This year, BBSG also had to adapt the share-a-gift tradition in some ways, such as moving donation drives online – keeping the giving spirit alive while keeping within safe management measures.

These actions tell us that the Boys’ Brigade is an organisation that is sensitive to evolving needs, quick to adapt and committed to serve.

These are great qualities for a 91-year-old organisation!

I commend the Boys’ Brigade for remaining fervent in your fundraising efforts, and putting the welfare of volunteers and beneficiaries first under the evolving challenges of pandemic and endemic living.

I have every confidence that projects like BBSG, and your caring and agile approach to them amid challenges, will allow you to groom the boys of Boys’ Brigade to be the “Sure and Steadfast Leaders” of tomorrow, anchored by an enduring commitment to serve and make a difference to others.

The holiday season is the season of giving.  It is a good time for each of us to look beyond ourselves to see if others around us have needs that we can help fill.

I encourage many to support BBSG by donating generously and giving our time to help spread joy in this season. And I hope Boys’ Brigade, together with your partners, will continue to pursue meaningful initiatives like the BBSG, and continue to grow and strengthen our Singapore Together spirit.

I’d like to wrap up with a big thank you to BBSG 2021’s sponsors and partners – your support is vital to the success of BBSG.  Your generosity will bring light and happiness into thousands of homes this year.

I hope BBSG2021 will be another great success this year.  Please let me wish everyone here an early Season’s Greetings – may you and your loved ones be happy and healthy, and may we all bring joy and cheer to those around us.

Thank you.
