Letter from PM Lee Hsien Loong to NTUC President Mary Liew on 21 April 2021

PM Lee Hsien Loong | 21 April 2021

Letter from PM Lee Hsien Loong to Ms Mary Liew, President of the National Trades Union Congress, dated 21 April 2021.

21 April 2021

Ms Mary Liew
President National Trades Union Congress

Dear Sister Mary Liew,

In 2018, at the request of the NTUC Central Committee, I had asked Senior Minister of State Dr Koh Poh Koon to serve in the Labour Movement on a part-time basis, while concurrently retaining relevant Ministry appointments. Poh Koon has supported the NTUC Secretary-General as an additional interface between the Labour Movement and Government agencies, and strengthened the close and symbiotic relationship between the NTUC and the PAP government.

Now, I would like to ask Poh Koon to return to the Government. In his place, after discussion with Secretary-General Ng Chee Meng, I would like to nominate Senior Minister of State Chee Hong Tat to serve in the same role. I am confident that Hong Tat, with his concurrent appointment in the Ministry of Transport, and his previous experience in the Ministry of Trade and Industry and the public service, will be able to contribute significantly to NTUC's efforts to secure the livelihoods and future of our workers.

I hope the NTUC Central Committee will support this proposal. I look forward to your favourable reply.

Yours sincerely,

LEE HSIEN LOONG
