PM Lee Hsien Loong participated in the Extraordinary Virtual G20 Leaders' Summit on 26 March 2020.

At the invitation of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Prime Minister (PM) Lee Hsien Loong participated in the Extraordinary Virtual G20 Leaders’ Summit on 26 March 2020.

The meeting was convened by Saudi Arabia, the 2020 G20 Presidency, to advance a coordinated set of policies to safeguard public health and support the global economy from the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. It was chaired by His Majesty King Salman Bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, and attended by the Heads of State or Heads of Government of G20 members and invited countries, as well as Heads of International Organisations.

The G20 Leaders stressed the importance of urgent response to address the significant public health, economic and social impact of the COVID- 19 pandemic. The Leaders agreed to focus on the following four important areas of work. First, take all necessary measures to contain the pandemic and protect lives. Second, utilise available tools to minimise the economic and social impact. Third, commit to realise a free, fair, non-discriminatory, transparent, predictable and stable trade and investment environment, and to keep markets open. Fourth, enhance global cooperation.

In his written statement, PM urged countries to work together after the crisis to rebuild domestic confidence in the merits of a globalised world and resist the urge to turn inwards.
