MFA Press Statement: Condolence message from Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong on the passing of former Prime Minister of Hungary Dr Gyula Horn

Your Excellency,

On behalf of the Government and people of the Republic of Singapore, I offer our condolences on the passing of Dr Gyula Horn.

Dr Horn was a visionary leader who helped to bring down the Iron Curtain in 1989. He played a key role in Hungary's transition to a market economy, and in preparing Hungary for entry into NATO and the EU.

I was honoured to have met Dr Horn when he visited Singapore in 1997, and deeply appreciate Dr Horn's valuable contributions to Singapore-Hungary relations. He will be missed.
