MFA Press Statement: Official Visit to Singapore by Prime Minister of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg His Excellency Jean-Claude Juncker

The Prime Minister of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, His Excellency Jean-Claude Juncker, who is in Singapore on an Official Visit from 6 to 7 November 2012, was officially welcomed by Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong at the Istana this evening. Following the ceremony, Prime Minister Juncker met with PM Lee, who hosted an Official Dinner in honour of Prime Minister Juncker. Prime Minister Juncker also paid a courtesy call on President Tony Tan.

During the meetings, the leaders agreed that Singapore and Luxembourg enjoy warm relations, and share many similarities as small states and financial hubs. The leaders also looked forward to the conclusion of the EU-Singapore FTA, which will enhance the economic relations between Singapore and Luxembourg, and exchanged views on developments in Europe and Asia.

Earlier in the morning, Prime Minister Juncker also attended a ceremony at the National Orchid Garden where a new orchid hybrid, Dendrobium Jean-Claude Juncker, was named in Prime Minister Juncker’s honour. Prime Minister Juncker and his delegation will depart Singapore on 7 November 2012.
