Minister Heng Swee Keat discharged from hospital

25 June 2016

Mr Heng Swee Keat, Minister for Finance, was discharged from Tan Tock Seng Hospital (TTSH) today.

Mr Heng has made an excellent recovery from his stroke on 12 May 2016. His sudden stroke was due to an aneurysm, which is a localised weakening of a blood vessel. He underwent successful endovascular coil embolisation of the aneurysm on the same day. He was also treated with antibiotics for a lung infection.

Mr Heng expresses his deepest appreciation to the doctors, nurses, and staff of TTSH and the National Neuroscience Institute for their excellent care, and also to the many well-wishers, who had sent him messages of encouragement and good wishes.

Mr Heng will be on medical leave as he continues his rehabilitation process. To minimise the risk of infection, his doctors have advised against receiving visitors for the time being.

Deputy Prime Minister and Coordinating Minister for Economic and Social Policies Tharman Shanmugaratnam will continue to cover the duties of the Minister for Finance.
