Official Visit of PM Lee Hsien Loong to the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, the State of Israel and the Palestinian Territories – 16 to 22 April 2016

Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong will make an official visit to Jordan from 16 to 18 April 2016, followed by Israel from 18 to 22 April 2016 and the Palestinian Territories on 20 April 2016. This will be PM’s first official visit to Jordan, Israel and the Palestinian Territories. The visit will affirm Singapore’s good relations with Jordan, Israel and the Palestinian National Authority, and underscore Singapore’s commitment to support the capacity building efforts of the Palestinian people.

While in Jordan, PM will be hosted to lunch by His Majesty King Abdullah II. He will meet Prime Minister and Defence Minister Abdullah Ensour, who will also host him to dinner. PM will meet Chief Advisor for Religious and Cultural Affairs Prince Ghazi Bin Muhammad Bin Talal. In addition, he will meet Singapore students studying in Jordan.

In Israel, PM will call on President Reuven Rivlin and meet Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. PM will also meet Leader of the Opposition Isaac Herzog and former President and Nobel Peace Prize laureate Shimon Peres. In addition, PM will meet with leaders of major Israeli technology companies and visit the Hebrew University where he will receive a Doctor Philosophiae Honoris Causa as well as witness the signing of an agreement between Hebrew University and the National Research Foundation to facilitate research collaboration in Singapore.
In the Palestinian Territories, PM will meet with and be hosted to lunch by Prime Minister of the Palestinian National Authority Rami Hamdallah and lay a wreath at the mausoleum of the first President of the Palestinian National Authority Yasser Arafat.

PM will be accompanied by Mrs Lee, Minister for Foreign Affairs Dr Vivian Balakrishnan, Minister for the Environment and Water Resources Mr Masagos Zulkifli, Minister of State for Communications and Information and Minister of State for Education Dr Janil Puthucheary, and Members of Parliament Mr Liang Eng Hwa and Dr Intan Azura Binte Mokhtar.

During PM’s absence, Deputy Prime Minister and Coordinating Minister for National Security Teo Chee Hean will be the Acting Prime Minister.
