PM Lee Hsien Loong's official visit to Japan, 26 to 29 September 2016

Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong will make an official visit to Tokyo, Japan, from 26 to 29 September 2016 in conjunction with the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Singapore and Japan (SJ50).

During the visit, PM Lee will have a Summit Meeting with Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, who will host a banquet for PM Lee and his delegation. PM Lee will receive the posthumous award of the Grand Cordon of the Order of the Paulownia Flowers from PM Abe on behalf of Mr Lee Kuan Yew. This is in recognition of Mr Lee’s contributions to the development of relations between Singapore and Japan over several decades. PM Lee will meet other Japanese political and business leaders, and deliver a speech at the Special Session of the Nikkei 22nd International Conference on The Future of Asia. PM Lee will also meet Singaporeans residing in Japan at a reception.

PM Lee will be accompanied by Mrs Lee, Minister (Social and Family Development) Tan Chuan Jin, Senior Minister of State (Prime Minister’s Office)/(Foreign Affairs)/(Transport) Josephine Teo, Senior Minister of State (Culture, Community, and Youth)/(Trade and Industry) Sim Ann, Mayor of North West District and Member of Parliament Dr Teo Ho Pin, Member of Parliament Zainal Sapari, and senior officials from the Prime Minister’s Office, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Ministry of Trade and Industry.

During PM Lee’s absence, Mr Tharman Shanmugaratnam, Deputy Prime Minister and Coordinating Minister for Economic and Social Policies, will be the Acting Prime Minister.
