Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong to attend the 19th Asean Summit and Related Summits in Bali, Indonesia

Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong will attend the 19th ASEAN Summit and Related Summits in Bali, Indonesia, from 17 to 19 November 2011. He will be accompanied by Minister for Trade and Industry Lim Hng Kiang, Minister for Foreign Affairs and Minister for Law K Shanmugam, and senior officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Ministry of Trade and Industry.

Apart from the 19th ASEAN Summit, PM Lee will participate in the regular ASEAN Plus One Summits with China, India, Japan and the Republic of Korea, and the third ASEAN-US Leaders Meeting. PM Lee will also participate in the ASEAN Plus Three Summit involving the Leaders from ASEAN Member States and China, Japan and the Republic of Korea as well the 6th East Asia Summit (EAS) which includes all ten ASEAN Leaders and their counterparts from Australia, China, India, Japan, the Republic of Korea, Russia, New Zealand and the United States. ASEAN Leaders will also hold a Summit discussion with United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki Moon. 

The ASEAN Leaders are expected to sign the Bali Declaration on ASEAN Community in a Global Community of Nations.The EAS Leaders are also expected to adopt the Declaration of the 6th East Asia Summit on ASEAN Connectivity and the Declaration of the East Asia Summit on the Principles for Mutually Beneficial Relations.

In Bali, the Leaders will discuss the progress in ASEAN's community building efforts towards their common goal of realising the ASEAN Community by 2015 and take stock of the implementation of the ASEAN Charter. They will also exchange views on regional and international issues, and discuss ASEAN's role in the regional political, economic and security architecture, as well as matters pertaining to the future direction of the EAS. 

During Mr Lee's absence, Mr Teo Chee Hean, DPM & Co-ordinating Minister for National Security and Minister for Home Affairs will be the Acting Prime Minister.
