Deputy Prime Minister and Coordinating Minister for National Security Teo Chee Hean visited Jordan from 14 to 15 October 2018.

 

Deputy Prime Minister (DPM) and Coordinating Minister for National Security Teo Chee Hean visited Jordan from 14 to 15 October 2018.

DPM Teo had an audience with His Majesty King Abdullah II Bin Al Hussein on 15 October, during which they reaffirmed our warm and longstanding bilateral ties. They discussed ways to step up cooperation across various sectors and exchange best practices on strengthening social cohesion. Both leaders also had a useful exchange of views on regional developments in the Middle East and Asia.

Earlier today, DPM Teo visited the University of Jordan (UJ). During his meeting with its President Dr Abdel-Kareem Al-Qudah, both sides welcomed the increasing numbers of Singaporean students enrolled in the university and discussed collaboration in Islamic education. DPM also toured the university’s Faculty of Sharia, and interacted with its faculty and students. Around 50 Singaporean students are presently pursuing tertiary education at UJ.

DPM Teo also had a working lunch with senior Jordanian business leaders. They had a substantive discussion on economic developments in Jordan. Both sides agreed that there was potential for our companies to collaborate in regional markets.

Last evening, DPM Teo attended a panel discussion and reception with more than 120 Singaporeans studying in Jordan. They had a lively exchange of views on social issues and developments in Singapore. DPM Teo underscored to the students the important role they played in contributing to our society.

DPM Teo is accompanied by Minister for the Environment and Water Resources and Minister-in-charge of Muslim Affairs Masagos Zulkifli, Senior Parliamentary Secretary (Foreign Affairs) (Trade and Industry) Dr Tan Wu Meng and officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and other agencies.
