Visit by PM Lee Hsien Loong to Vientiane, Lao PDR, for the 28th and 29th ASEAN Summits and Related Summits

Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong will be in Vientiane, Lao PDR from 6 to 8 September 2016 to attend the 28th and 29th ASEAN Summits and related Summits.

 

Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong will be in Vientiane, Lao PDR from 6 to 8 September 2016 to attend the 28th and 29th ASEAN Summits and related Summits. He will be accompanied by Minister for Foreign Affairs Dr Vivian Balakrishnan and senior officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Prime Minister Lee will also be accompanied by Mrs Lee Hsien Loong for the visit.

As the first meeting among ASEAN Leaders following the establishment of the ASEAN Community, the ASEAN Leaders will discuss the “Implementation of the ASEAN Community Vision 2025 and the Way Forward”.

The Leaders will also launch the Master Plan on ASEAN Connectivity 2025 and the Initiative for ASEAN Integration Work Plan III. In addition, the Leaders will sign the ASEAN Declaration on One ASEAN, One Response: ASEAN Responding to Disasters as One in the Region and Outside the Region.

The Leaders will also exchange views on regional and international issues. The ASEAN Leaders will meet their counterparts during the 19th ASEAN Plus Three Summit, the 11th East Asia Summit, and Summits with Australia, China, India, Japan, the Republic of Korea, the United States, and the United Nations. They will also hold the 19th ASEAN-China Summit to Commemorate the 25th Anniversary of ASEAN-China Dialogue Relations.

Mr Teo Chee Hean, Deputy Prime Minister and Co-ordinating Minister for National Security, will be the Acting Prime Minister from 6 to 8 September 2016.
