Visit of Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong to the Kingdom of the Netherlands, The Grand Duchy of Luxembourg and the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, 23 to 29 March 2014

Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong will attend the third Nuclear Security Summit in The Hague, Kingdom of the Netherlands, from 24 to 25 March 2014, at the invitation of the Prime Minister of the Netherlands Mark Rutte.  Thereafter, PM will visit the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg on 26 March 2014 and the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland from 26 to 29 March 2014.

The third Nuclear Security Summit in The Hague is a follow-up to the first two Summits, which PM Lee also attended, held in Washington D.C., the United States of America, and Seoul, the Republic of Korea, in 2010 and 2012 respectively.  The Leaders of 53 countries and four international organisations are expected to attend the Hague Summit.  They will assess the progress made over the past four years on national and international measures to enhance nuclear security, identify unmet objectives from the previous two Summits and propose how these can be achieved. 

During his visits to Luxembourg and the UK, PM will meet Luxembourg Prime Minister Xavier Bettel and UK Prime Minister David Cameron to discuss ways to strengthen Singapore’s bilateral cooperation with the two countries, and to seek their support for the EU-Singapore Free Trade Agreement (EUSFTA).   PM will also attend Singapore Day in London.

PM will be accompanied to the Netherlands by Mrs Lee Hsien Loong and officials from the Prime Minister’s Office, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Communications and Information, Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources and National Environment Agency. Deputy Prime Minister, Co-ordinating Minister for National Security and Minister for Home Affairs Teo Chee Hean and Minister in the Prime Minister’s Office, Second Minister for the Environment and Water Resources and Second Minister for Foreign Affairs Grace Fu, will join PM in the UK. 

During PM’s absence, Deputy Prime Minister Teo Chee Hean will be the Acting Prime Minister from 23 to 25 March 2014 and Deputy Prime Minister Tharman Shanmugaratnam will be the Acting Prime Minister from 26 to 30 March 2014.
