Visit by PM Lee Hsien Loong to the People's Republic of China (11-18 September 2014)

PM Lee Hsien Loong will visit the People’s Republic of China from 11 to 18 September 2014, covering Guangdong (Guangzhou and Shenzhen), Guangxi (Guilin and Nanning) and the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR).

 

          Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong will visit the People’s Republic of China from 11 to 18 September 2014, covering Guangdong (Guangzhou and Shenzhen), Guangxi (Guilin and Nanning) and the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR).

          In Guangdong, PM will meet with Member of the Central Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and Secretary of the CPC Guangdong Provincial Committee Hu Chunhua, as well as the Guangzhou and Shenzhen leaders.  PM will also visit the Sino-Singapore Guangzhou Knowledge City and other sites to understand the key developments in Guangdong.

          In Guangxi, PM will deliver the keynote address at the joint Official Opening Ceremony of the 11th China-ASEAN EXPO (CAEXPO) and China-ASEAN Business and Investment Summit (CABIS) held in Nanning, in Singapore’s capacity as the Country-of-Honour for the 11th CAEXPO.  PM will officiate the opening of the Singapore Pavilion with Member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Vice Premier Zhang Gaoli.  He will also attend a roundtable dialogue with CEOs of major PRC companies.  PM will separately meet Vice Premier Zhang, Secretary of the CPC Guangxi Provincial Committee Peng Qinghua and Secretary of the CPC Guilin Municipal Committee Zhao Leqin.

          In Hong Kong, PM will meet HKSAR Chief Executive Leung Chun-ying, Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference Vice-Chairman Tung Chee Hwa, as well as Hong Kong business leaders, to update himself on the latest developments in Hong Kong.

          PM will be accompanied by Mrs Lee, Minister for Transport Lui Tuck Yew (Guangzhou only), Minister in the Prime Minister’s Office, Second Minister for Foreign Affairs and Second Minister for the Environment and Water Resources Grace Fu (Nanning only), Special Advisor for Economic Cooperation to the Prime Minister Wong Kan Seng (Guangzhou and Shenzhen), Senior Minister of State for Trade and Industry and Senior Minister of State for National Development Lee Yi Shyan (Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Guilin and Nanning), Minister of State in the Prime Minister’s Office and Minister of State for Culture, Community and Youth Sam Tan (Nanning only), as well as senior officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Trade and Industry, and Ministry of Communications and Information.

          During PM’s absence, Mr Teo Chee Hean, Deputy Prime Minister, Co-ordinating Minister for National Security and Minister for Home Affairs; and Mr Lim Hng Kiang, Minister for Trade & Industry, will be the Acting Prime Minister for the following periods:

          a) Minister Lim Hng Kiang will be the Acting Prime Minister for the period 11 to 13 September 2014.

          b) DPM Teo Chee Hean will be the Acting Prime Minister for the period 14 to 18 September 2014.
