DPM Lawrence Wong’s call on Malaysian PM Dato’ Sri Ismail Sabri Yaakob (September 2022)

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance Lawrence Wong, who is on an Official Visit to Malaysia from 4 to 7 September 2022, called on Malaysian Prime Minister Dato’ Sri Ismail Sabri Yaakob on 5 September 2022.

 

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance Lawrence Wong, who is on an Official Visit to Malaysia from 4 to 7 September 2022, called on Malaysian Prime Minister Dato’ Sri Ismail Sabri Yaakob today.

Prime Minister Ismail Sabri and Deputy Prime Minister Wong reaffirmed the substantive and broad-based cooperation shared by Malaysia and Singapore. Both sides welcomed the good progress on the Johor Bahru-Singapore Rapid Transit System Link Project, which will improve connectivity when it commences service at the end of 2026. Deputy Prime Minister Wong noted Malaysia’s interest in reviving discussions on the Singapore-Kuala Lumpur High Speed Rail (HSR) project, and said that Singapore is open to fresh proposals from Malaysia.

Deputy Prime Minister Wong reiterated Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong’s invitation to Prime Minister Ismail Sabri to visit Singapore for the 10th Singapore-Malaysia Leaders’ Retreat. Prime Minister Ismail Sabri and Deputy Prime Minister Wong looked forward to Singapore and Malaysia working together for the continued mutual benefit of both countries, including in new areas of cooperation in green and digital economies.
