Official Visit of PM Lee Hsien Loong to the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, 7 to 9 June 2016

Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong will make an official visit to Myanmar from 7 to 9 June 2016. PM will visit Nay Pyi Taw from 7 to 8 June 2016 and Yangon from 8 to 9 June 2016. PM’s visit coincides with the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Singapore and Myanmar. The visit will affirm Singapore’s longstanding ties with Myanmar, underscore Singapore’s commitment to support Myanmar’s development, and discuss ways to strengthen bilateral cooperation. PM last visited Myanmar in November 2014 for the 25th ASEAN Summit in Nay Pyi Taw.

In Nay Pyi Taw, PM will meet President U Htin Kyaw, State Counsellor, Union Minister in the President’s Office and Union Minister for Foreign Affairs Daw Aung San Suu Kyi, Speaker of the Lower House U Win Myint, Speaker of the Union Parliament and Speaker of the Upper House Mahn Win Khaing Than, Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, and Chairman of Union Solidarity and Development Party and former President U Thein Sein. In Yangon, PM will officiate at the launch of the Singapore-Myanmar Vocational Training Institute and attend a reception with Singaporeans.

PM will be accompanied by Mrs Lee, Minister for Foreign Affairs Dr Vivian Balakrishnan, Acting Minister for Education (Higher Education and Skills) and Senior Minister of State for Defence Ong Ye Kung, Senior Minister of State for Finance and Law Indranee Rajah, Senior Minister of State in the Prime Minister’s Office and for Foreign Affairs and Transport Josephine Teo, Members of Parliament Cedric Foo Chee Keng and Associate Professor Fatimah Lateef, and senior officials from the Prime Minister’s Office and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

During PM’s absence, Deputy Prime Minister and Coordinating Minister for National Security Teo Chee Hean will be the Acting Prime Minister.
