The appointment of Mr. Dedar Singh Gill as a Judicial Commissioner of the Supreme Court of Singapore will take effect on 1 August 2018 for a period of 2 years.

 

The President of the Republic of Singapore, on the advice of the Prime Minister has appointed Mr. Dedar Singh Gill as a Judicial Commissioner of the Supreme Court of Singapore under Article 95(4) (a) of the Constitution.

The appointment of Mr. Gill will take effect on 1 August 2018 for a period of 2 years. The swearing-in ceremony for the appointment of Mr. Gill will take place on 3 August 2018 at the Istana.

Mr. Gill, 59, graduated with a Bachelor of Laws (2nd Class Upper Honours) from the National University of Singapore in 1983. Since graduation, Mr. Gill has been practising with Messrs. Drew & Napier LLC, (except for a 1-year stint with Messrs. Harry Elias) in the field of intellectual property. He last held the position of Managing Director of the Intellectual Property Dept. of the firm. He has appeared as counsel before the High Court and Court of Appeal for major corporate clients and has established a considerable reputation for his expertise and experience in intellectual property law.

With the appointment of Mr. Gill, the Supreme Court will have a total of 21 Judges (including four Judges of Appeal and the Chief Justice), six Judicial Commissioners, four Senior Judges and 15 International Judges.
