Dear Vice President-elect Harris,

Please accept my warmest congratulations on your election as the Vice President of the United States of America.

Your victory was hard-earned and comes at a critical juncture. I am confident that under your leadership, the United States will emerge from COVID-19 stronger, exercising its global leadership role in seeking collective solutions to the pandemic.

Singapore and the United States share a deep and extensive partnership, with cooperation in the economic, defence and security spheres. Singapore is the United States’ only Major Security Cooperation Partner. Since 1990, we have provided support for the United States’ military presence and defence engagements in the region. We also work closely on transnational security issues, including counterterrorism and cybersecurity. On the economic front, trade and investment ties are anchored by the United States-Singapore Free Trade Agreement. Singapore’s investments and trade with the United States continue to grow apace.

I look forward to meeting you in the near future to discuss how both sides can enhance bilateral cooperation and strengthen the United States’ engagement of the Asia-Pacific.
