Deputy Prime Minister and Chairman of the National Research Foundation Heng Swee Keat met Deputy Prime Minister and Secretary of State for Housing, Communities and Local Government of the United Kingdom Angela Rayner in London on 30 Sep 2024 (UK time).
Deputy Prime Minister Heng and Deputy Prime Minister Rayner reaffirmed the strategic partnership between Singapore and the UK. They discussed ongoing economic transformation efforts in Singapore and the UK, particularly in the areas of technology adoption and workforce development for inclusive growth. They also discussed the important role of unions and tripartite partnership in supporting skills upgrading to improve productivity, increase wages, and better the lives of our peoples.
In addition, Deputy Prime Minister Heng and Deputy Prime Minister Rayner exchanged views on our common interests to provide quality and affordable housing. They reaffirmed the strong people-to-people relationship that both countries enjoy, such as in higher education. They also discussed ways that Singapore and the UK could further collaborate in science and technology to harness opportunities for the future.
