Prime Minister and Minister for Finance Lawrence Wong will visit the Republic of Korea (ROK) from 29 October to 2 November 2025.
Prime Minister and Minister for Finance Lawrence Wong will make a working visit to Gyeongju, the Republic of Korea (ROK), from 29 October to 1 November 2025 to attend the 32nd Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Economic Leaders’ Meeting (AELM). Prime Minister Wong will thereafter make an Official Visit to the ROK from 1 to 2 November 2025 at the invitation of ROK President Lee Jae Myung. This will be Prime Minister Wong’s introductory visit to the ROK, which coincides with the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Singapore and the ROK.
In Gyeongju, under the theme of “Building a Sustainable Tomorrow: Connect, Innovate, Prosper”, APEC Leaders will discuss ways to promote trade and investment, harness the benefits of new technology such as AI for trade and respond to demographic changes in the Asia-Pacific region. Prime Minister Wong will participate in the AELM Sessions and the APEC Business Advisory Council (ABAC) Dialogue with APEC Economic Leaders. On the sidelines of the AELM, Prime Minister Wong will have meals and bilateral meetings with his counterparts.
In Gyeongju, Prime Minister Wong will be accompanied by Minister for Foreign Affairs, Dr Vivian Balakrishnan, Senior Minister of State for Foreign Affairs and for Home Affairs Sim Ann, and officials from the Prime Minister’s Office, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Ministry of Trade and Industry.
In Seoul, Prime Minister Wong and President Lee will have a delegation meeting at the ROK President’s Yongsan Office, followed by an MOU signing/exchange ceremony, as well as a Joint Press Conference to launch the upgrade of ROK-Singapore relations to a Strategic Partnership (SP). President Lee will host an official luncheon for Prime Minister Wong.
Prime Minister Wong will lay a wreath at the Seoul National Cemetery. He will also meet overseas Singaporeans based in the ROK over a reception in Seoul.
In Seoul, Prime Minister Wong will be accompanied by Mrs Wong, Senior Minister of State for Foreign Affairs and for Home Affairs Sim Ann, Senior Minister of State for Digital Development and Information and for Health Tan Kiat How, Senior Minister of State for Transport and for Law Murali Pillai, and officials. During Prime Minister Wong’s absence, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Trade and Industry Gan Kim Yong will be the Acting Prime Minister.
