2 December 2025
Prime Minister and Minister for Finance Lawrence Wong visited Johannesburg, South Africa, from 21 to 23 November 2025 to attend the G20 Summit at the invitation of the President of the Republic of South Africa, Cyril Ramaphosa, in South Africa’s capacity as the 2025 G20 Presidency.
At the G20 Summit, PM Wong had substantive discussions with world leaders on advancing inclusive and sustainable economic growth.
PM Wong remarked that the global system is under severe strain. Therefore, as the world changes, it is important to update global rules and reform institutions such as the WTO so that they reflect today’s strategic realities. The G20 has an important role in coordinating these efforts and shaping a global economic and financial architecture that remains open, stable, and fair.
Singapore will continue working with its partners to push these efforts forward.
PM Wong also congratulated South Africa on its successful 2025 G20 Presidency.
