Visit by Federal Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany Friedrich Merz - Oct 2026

Prime Minister and Minister for Finance Lawrence Wong welcomed Federal Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany Friedrich Merz to Singapore for an official visit on 27 October 2026.

Chancellor Merz and PM Wong attended an Orchid Naming Ceremony at the Parliament House, where an orchid, Vanda Friedrich Merz, was named in Chancellor Merz’s honour.

The two leaders had a bilateral meeting and reaffirmed the longstanding and wide-ranging partnership between Singapore and Germany.

Following the meeting, both leaders announced a renewed Joint Declaration and Joint Work Plan for the Singapore-Germany Strategic Partnership, spanning areas like the digital economy, AI, and research and innovation.

PM Wong also welcomed Germany’s growing interest in, and engagement of ASEAN. Both leaders agreed to work together to strengthen ASEAN-Germany and ASEAN-EU ties.
