Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the State of Qatar, His Excellency Sheikh Mohammed Bin Abdulrahman Bin Jassim Al Thani, received a ceremonial welcome at the Istana on 24 August 2023, during his Official Visit to Singapore.

PM Sheikh Mohammed called on Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, who also hosted an Official Lunch. He had a new orchid hybrid, the Dendrobium Mohammed Bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani, named in his honour.

PM Lee and PM Sheikh Mohammed had a good discussion on strengthening cooperation between Qatar and Singapore in areas such as energy, trade and investment, as well as counter-radicalisation. As small states, we share similar challenges and can learn from each other’s experience. They agreed that Singapore and Qatar should work closely together on strengthening the linkages between Southeast Asia and the Gulf. Both PMs also exchanged views on regional and international geopolitical developments.

PM Lee and PM Sheikh Mohammed witnessed the signing of five Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs) in the areas of social development and family, education, water-related research, enterprise digitalisation and innovation, and commercial partnerships.
