Visit by Timor-Leste's PM Xanana Gusmão - Jul 2025

Prime Minister and Minister for Finance Lawrence Wong welcomed Prime Minister of the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste Xanana Gusmão to Singapore on 14 July 2025.

Prime Minister Wong and Prime Minister Gusmão had a good discussion on strengthening bilateral cooperation, including in human resource development and capacity building. Prime Minister Wong also hosted Prime Minister Gusmão to an Official Lunch.

To support Timor-Leste’s upcoming accession to ASEAN, Singapore will launch a customised enhanced Singapore-Timor-Leste ASEAN Readiness Support (eSTARS) Package, which will run from July 2025 till December 2028. The package will include access to ASEAN-related training courses and expertise. Beyond the ambit of ASEAN, the eSTARS Package will also offer scholarships, capacity building programmes, and customised leadership training for Timor-Leste officials.
